In parallel with the increasing elderly population, there has also been an increase in applications to nursing homes, elderly care and rehabilitation centers that provide services for the elderly over the age of 60. As a result, the quality of health and care services provided to the elderly population is important for the entire world. In order to contribute to the reduction of physical, mental and social disabilities that occur with aging in elderly individuals, a need for competent personnel who can provide medical and social care services has emerged. Therefore, the main purpose of the program is to ensure that students who will benefit from the program integrate and internalize the necessary knowledge, skills and values on the subject of elderly care services and become competent elderly care technicians who are qualified to implement and develop elderly care services in the public sector, private sector and non-governmental organizations. The elderly care program covers a two-year associate degree education.
The educational basis of the elderly care program is to gain the ability to know the basic characteristics and needs of the elderly and to meet their needs accordingly, as well as to approach the elderly in a holistic manner.
Employment Areas for Graduates: Graduates of the program receive the title of "Elderly Care Technician". Graduates can work under expert supervision in units related to their fields under the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, municipalities, hospitals, nursing homes, nursing homes, practices for the elderly in health units, palliative care units, home care services, organizing the homes of the elderly, and protected residences.
Working Environment and Conditions: Their work environment is dynamic. Since they may work day and/or night shifts, there may be intense stress and physical fatigue during their work. They must always be careful. While working, they are in contact with the relatives of the elderly, healthcare personnel, colleagues and, if necessary, different institutions.
History: Iğdır University Health Services Vocational School was established in 2008 with the decision of the Council of Ministers. In addition, our school was established with the letter dated 23.09.2009 and numbered 30609 of the Higher Education Council and also with the letter dated 17.02.2010 and numbered 6587. The Department of Health Care Services established within the Health Services Vocational School started education in 2011.
Our college's Health Care Services Department started its current programs in the 2011 academic year with the child development program that was previously within its own structure. In 2014, the child development program was connected to the Child Care and Youth Services department. The Elderly Care Program, which is connected to Health Care Services, was opened in 2009. In the 2012 academic year, the elderly care program started accepting students. In the 2014 academic year, the Elderly Care (Evening Education) Program, the Home Patient Care Program and the Home Patient Care (Evening Education) Program were both opened and accepted students.

Double Major / Minor Programs
Double Major Program: It allows students to earn a bachelor's degree in a field they are interested in, in addition to their primary field. In this program, students can complete courses in two different fields and earn a diploma in both fields.
Minor Program: It allows students to take a certain number of courses in a field they are interested in, outside of their major. Students who complete a minor program are given an official certificate in that field; however, this does not mean they have a second bachelor's degree.

Exchange Programs
It offers students the opportunity to study at another university, either domestically or abroad, for a certain period of time. Thanks to these programs, students have the opportunity to learn about different cultures, improve their foreign language skills and gain international academic experience. The most common exchange programs include programs such as Erasmus+, Mevlana and Farabi.

Career
Purpose / Goals of the Department / Program: The Elderly Care Program provides training for intermediate staff equipped to provide treatment and social care services to elderly people in detail regarding their physical, mental and social disabilities that arise with aging. The goal of the program is to provide them with the necessary knowledge, skills and values regarding elderly care services and to ensure that they become competent professionals in this field.
Current Status and Future of the Department/Program: The program offers ample job opportunities to its graduates and, in case of further need in the future due to the aging population, continues to develop and improve its education with its expert academic staff and practice-oriented curriculum.
Professions Under the Field: Professions such as Elderly Care Technician, elderly care worker, home care services personnel are included in this field.
Job Opportunities:
Graduates are informed about nursing homes, elderly care centers, municipalities, hospitals, home care services and private care services affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies. In addition, the possibilities of use in special deterioration and civil society periods are wide.
